Waxhaw Baptist Church is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following are brief bio's of our leadership team and their qualifications for ministry.
Chris Whittaker
Lead Pastor
Chris was called to lead Waxhaw Baptist Church in the summer of 2011. Prior to joining Waxhaw Baptist, he worked with Union County Environmental Health for 28 years before retiring in 2015. It was during this time in the marketplace the Lord called Chris and honed his people skills to prepare him to serve in the ministry.
Chris graduated from Morehead State University in June of 1988 with a B.S. in Biology and from Southern Evangelical Seminary with an Master of Divinity in Apologetics in May of 2009. He was ordained in June of 2009. Chris finished his Doctorate of Ministry in Apologetics in April of 2022.
His passions and strengths include: Evangelism, Biblical World View, Apologetics, teaching how the Bible applies to everyday life and people.
Chris loves to go to the beach and mountains to fish, enjoys an occasional round of golf, and is always interested in answering the questions people have about God and life.
He is happily married to his fishing partner and wife, Laura. They have a son, Jake who is a youth Pastor in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina . The Whittakers have lived in the Roughedge community since 1992.
Daniel Horton
Director of Worship and Media
In April of 2024, Daniel Horton was called to serve as the Worship Leader of Waxhaw Baptist Church. He has served through Worship in a variety of locations, vocationally or otherwise. He has also led as a mission camp counselor, and Youth director. He spent a year in college working as a professional songwriter and completed over seventy-five contracts, mostly with worship bands and Christian artists.
He is currently working towards a Bachelors degree at The College of Biblical Studies in Houston, and has also studied at Fruitland Baptist Bible College and the college at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He intends to pursue higher education in the fields of Philosophy and Humanities.
Daniel is focused on culturing an intimate philosophy of worship at Waxhaw and holds a passion for worship that incorporates a variety of styles, looking to serve Christians of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
Daniel enjoys philosophy, classic literature, songwriting, foreign films, writing fiction, studying theology, Russian history, analog photography, and good coffee.
